If you want to exchange out of the GO Zone sometime in the future (a likelihood, unless you live in the area) you might have a problem. The IRS recently issued a letter ruling about 1031 Exchanges of GO Zone properties. It appears to me that you can do it, but t has to be into another GO Zone property, or your depreciation would be recaptured.

The letter ruling isn’t crystal clear about this matter…and that’s what worries me bout the GO Zone. There are so many loose ends, I’m afraid a lot of investors are going to wish they never heard of the GO Zone–if they ever get audited!

Even with this I feel I am still very interested. This is for long term investment… and it makes sense.
