Do it yourself patent filing

I am in the progress of do it yourself patent filing. I am not lawyer and I don’t have any experience with that. I did file for trademark in the past so this is test for me to see how complicated it is and if regular person can file patent on his own.

I did the original filing online. Cannot say that I like the USPTO.gov system for online filing. First you have to register for customer number, which comes in the regular mail in couple of days. Than you should continue and get digital certificate. That really looked complicated (mailing notarized letter, etc.). Than I find out that you can do initial filing electronically and don’t need the certificated. Confusing? Yes, it is.

I did file the initial application about week ago. I got the response this morning. I forgot to include the form called Declaration… Damn, I had it ready and I forgot to scan it and file it with the initial application.

Now I cannot do it online anymore, because I don’t have digital certificate. So I am including the paper form and fees in letter and mailing back to USPTO.
